Bomb attack at the house of Rajesh, Dist. Karyawah of RSS

Date of attack: July 11, 2016

Place: Payyanur, Kannur district, Kerala

A mob of approximately 40 people surrounded his house, which is within one kilometre of CK Ramchandran’s house at around 00:30 am the same night Ramachandran was attacked, and started hurling local bombs on his house. They came on bikes and asked Rajesh to come out from the house, but the family did not open the door. In response, they broke all the windows of the house and caused heavy damage to his tourist bus, car, and bike, and also looted and destroyed a nearby shop owned by him.

His mother told us that while the CPM goons were attacking house, the family members called the police but no one came to the site and no picketing was done by the police to stop the horrific incidents of that night.

Apart from this, various other groups of 40 to 50 members CPM people attacked several other houses of Sangh workers and their properties in the similar manner on the same night:

  1. They set fire to the bike of Nagar swayamsewak Nandan and also attacked his house which caused a damage of around Rs 60,000 to him.
  2. They attacked the house of Unnikrishnan, Annur and set fire his auto rickshaw and his bike.
  3. House of KP Arun Kumar, district president of BJYM Kannur, was also attacked which caused heavy damage to his house.
  4. House of Chittadi Sahadevan was also attacked by CPM cadres and they set fire to his bike.
  5. They attacked the house of Narayanan and his bike was set on fire and heavy damage was caused to his house.
  6. The hyouse of Krishnan, Paruthikkad was attacked by CPM cadres and his house was also damaged.
  7. CPM cadres attacked the house of Ramachandran, Kerivellur and his tempo, Traveller and 3 scooters were set on fire. They also set fire to his house.
  8. They attacked the house of Raveendran, Mandalam President of BJP and damaged his house and the car parked outside.
  9. CPM cadres then attacked the house of Kandathil Balan and completely vandalised household items. They also caused heavy damage to his shop.
  10. House of Vaidyanathan, BJP Mandalam Treasurer was attacked, which caused heavy damage to the house. Attackers also set fire to the van, bus and 4 bikes standing outside his house.
  11. House of Rajil korom was attacked by CPM cadres and they also vandalised his three auto rickshaw standing outside his house.

  14. Shop of Prakashan, a local worker, was attacked.

These above-mentioned places of attack have remained tense. Sangh karyakartas have been under such fear that they advised our team to not visit those areas.

Mother of Rajesh and his brother narrating the story of bomb attack and destructionist at her house on the night of 11th July

After these attacks, for many days thereafter, many people who were neither workers nor sympathisers of RSS/BJP, were not in a position to enter their homes. Even prior to these incidents in the Payyanur area, due to regular political violence of CPM goons in the entire Kannur region, Sangh workers have lived under persistent fear of communist attack. CPM district secretary P Jayarajan, who is an accused in two murder cases in which an RSS leader Manoj and Muslim league leader Ariyil Shukoor of Thaliparamba were murdered, and a CBI inquiry has been ordered in both the cases, is supposedly the leader in these violent activities of CPM workers and others.

Jayarajan has good influence in the police department in the district, and because of his political pressure BJP/RSS workers have not been getting justice from the Kerala police. Rather they are being falsely implicated in various criminal cases. Here again it is noteworthy that there has been a nearly threefold increase in the vote-share of BJP in the last Assembly election at Kerala. In the Assembly election of 2011, the BJP had received only 5019 (3.84 per cent) votes, but this year the party got 15,341(10.79 per cent) of the votes. This certainly played a role in the attack of July 11, in which the top district CPM leadership lead the mob and attacked all previously marked prominent faces of BJP/RSS workers living in the area.
